| Eric Kates, DVM |
My name is Eric Kates and I grew up in Kerhonkson, New York on a farm in the Catskill Mountains. My father was initially a poultry farmer then became a Real Estate Broker owning Kates Realty. My mother was a well respected and successful breeder of Bullmastiffs and French Bulldogs under the name Stonykill Kennels. The farm had horses, goats, chickens and dogs as well as many other pets over the years. I was active in 4H and showed quarter horses as a youngster.
I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University in 1978 and the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Cornell in 1981. After graduation I moved to Monmouth County to join an existing large animal veterinary practice and become the owner on March 1st, 1983. At that time the practice consisted of mixed large animals including the last remaining cattle farms in Monmouth County. In 2000 the practice was incorporated and changed its name to Colts Neck Equine Associates as an exclusively equine practice.
My equine interests today are mainly in performance horses. I enjoy both the show and racing industries. Lameness problems are a unique problem to the equine athlete and a never ending source of challenge to us as veterinarians. I own and breed standardbreds and currently co-own world champion Carolina Sushine p1;48.4, the fastest mare ever over a 7/8 mile track.
My family consists of my wife Shari, who practices family law and 3 children, Alex (Cornell University, Mitchell (Colts Neck High School) and Jackie (Cedar Drive Middle School)

| Paula Miller, DVM |
Dr. Paula Miller joined Colts Neck Equine in Jan 2002. She is a Jersey native and grew up in Morris Plains where she owned a miniature donkey, dog and multiple bunnies and turtles. Her father grew up on a farm close by where he actually milked cows by hand back in the day when they delivered milk to your door! Undoubtedly, her father had a role in developing her love and respect of animals. The unconditional love, support and guidance from both of her parents has definitely been a guiding influence and stronghold in her life.
Dr. Miller went to The Ohio State University for her undergraduate degree in Animal Science and took a variety of classes but confirmed her calling to be a veterinarian and attended veterinary school there as well. After graduation she completed a post doctoral internship at Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital in Snohomish, Washington. She then spent over two years in a private practice in the beautiful northwest on Kitsap Penninsula just north of Seattle. Once back in New Jersey, Dr. Miller furthered her education through a course in veterinary chiropractic therapy at Tufts University. Her special interest lies in physiology and the integration of alternative care with traditional medicine to keep her equine patients performing and feeling their best. Dr. Miller works primarily with the hunter jumper and pleasure clients but enjoys the Standardbred racetrack portion of the practice as well.
The move to Jersey was a move back home to be near her parents, and sisters that collectively have given Paula 7 nephews and 2 nieces. Currently, when not working, Paula is trying to get back in the saddle on her 9 year old Thoroughbred rescue that she keeps at Sudden Lea in Freehold. She also adopted a pony for the nephews to ride or for herself when feeling less brave! Paula also enjoys Bible studies, spending time with her family and friends and of course her dog Mikey.

| Rebecca Linke, VMD |
Dr. Rebecca Linke is proud to be the newest addition to the Colts Neck Equine team. A Jersey native, she was born in Holmdel and later moved with her family to Lawrenceville, where she attended high school. She grew up surrounded by a variety of cats, dogs, gerbils, ferrets, and a wonderful Thoroughbred ex-racehorse that she got when she was fourteen and retrained as a jumper, all of which no doubt contributed to her desire to be a veterinarian. She received her undergraduate degree in Animal Science at Cornell University, and then spent a summer working for an Olympic show jumper in New Jersey before returning to Cornell to assist in research on cloned cows. She received her veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 2005 and then drove across the country to complete a year of post-doctoral training at Chino Valley Equine Hospital, a large referral hospital in southern California. She made the drive home to New Jersey in June, 2006, and started at CNE later that month. Dr. Linke’s primary interest is equine medicine and emergency/critical care work. She has experience in the hunter/jumper, polo, and dressage disciplines, and is gaining experience with Standardbred racehorses as well. When not working, Dr. Linke is busy training her new polo pony, jogging the occasional Standardbred at a nearby training track, or visiting her parents and sister in Lawrenceville.
